HOMELAND SECURITY

The United States now confronts a range of increasingly diffuse threats that puts greater destructive power into the hands of small states, groups, and individuals and threatens our values and way of life. These threats range from incidents of terrorism and information attacks on critical infrastructure to the potential use of weapons of mass destruction and the spread of infectious diseases, and each could cause massive casualties and disruption.

Our work indicates that in efforts of this kind—which involve many federal agencies as well as state and local governments, the private sector, and private citizens the federal government must address three fundamental needs. First, the government needs clearly defined and effective leadership with a clear vision to develop and implement a homeland security strategy in coordination with all relevant partners, and the ability to marshal the necessary resources to get the job done. Second, a national homeland security strategy should be developed based on a comprehensive assessment of national threats and risks. Third, the large number of organizations that will be involved in homeland security need to have clearly articulated roles, responsibilities, and accountability mechanisms.

Since 1968, AcroTek, Inc. has been a leading proponent of security technology. The background started with the development of an automatic water sampling, followed by robotic security guards and finally pattern recognition of CCTV images. AcroTek's approach to these issues is strengthened by its experience in other technology disciplines and expertise.

AcroTek's GuardBot security robots for home and business are proactive surveillance and deterrent guards. These smart machines were being considered long before 9/11 as a way of protecting property and personnel from the worst of mankind, and now they are useful against a new criminal - the Terrorist.

The firm's Eye Spy automated surveillance systems which have the ability to differentiate between humans and any other moving image. These can eliminate a lot of "false alarms" that are such a problem for the Security Industry.
